Jayhawk doubles tennis team advances to semis of KU Invitational


The Kansas University doubles tennis team of Claire Dreyer and Anastasija Trubica won two matches on Friday to advance to the semifinal round of the KU Invitational at the Jayhawk Tennis Center.

Dreyer and Trubica will play Northern Iowa’s Krissy Lankelma and Phoebe Walker today after taking down UMKC’s Gabby Pintos and Suzan Lisenby, 8-3, and Iowa State’s Emma Waites and Ellie Nixon, 8-0, on Friday.

KU’s Victoria Khanevskaya teamed up with Arkansas-Little Rock’s Yana Kakovkina to defeat a Drake team, 8-2, before falling to Iowa State, 8-6 in the quarterfinals.

The Jayhawks also found some success in singles play, as Khanevskaya (6-0, 6-2 vs. UNI’s Chelsea Moore) and Trubica (6-0, 6-1 vs. UMKC’s Pintos) both won their opening matches.

Dreyer lost her singles draw to UMKC’s Laura Bouet, 7-5, 6-1.

The KU Invitational will resume this morning and conclude by tonight instead of Monday, as originally scheduled.
