Alicia Pille won both games — as a starter in the opener and as a reliever in the nightcap — as Kansas University softball swept a nonconference doubleheader with UMKC, 3-1 and 3-2, on Wednesday at Arroch Ballpark.
In Game One, Pille allowed one earned run off five hits over the full even innings. She was staked to a 2-0 lead in the first inning by a two-run homer by fellow freshman Maddie Stein.
In Game Two, Pille (17-9) threw 22/3 shutout innings in relief. She allowed just one hit.
Maggie Hull went 3-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs.
Kansas University senior outfielder Dougie McCaulley went 3-for-3 to lead the Jayhawks softball team to a 7-2 rout of UMKC in the second game of a doubleheader on Tuesday night at Arrocha Ballpark.
Kansas won the first game, 8-0, in five innings.
The Jayhawks, winners of three straight, improved to 16-23 on the year. Sarah Blair (1-3) picked up the victory in the second game with four innings pitched and two earned runs.
In the first game, Kansas run-ruled UMKC with a two-run walkoff home run by first baseman Amanda Jobe in the bottom of the fifth.
KU pitcher Sarah Vertelka (6-7) picked up the victory, allowing only two hits and no runs in five innings. She walked one and struck out five.
The Jayhawks jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning with an RBI single from Liz Kocon and a two-RBI double from Allie Clark. Kansas added five more runs in the fifth inning.
Clark went 2-for-3 with two doubles and four RBIs in the first game.
The Jayhawks will head to Austin, Texas, to face the Longhorns at 1 p.m. on Saturday and noon on Sunday.
Kansas will wrap up a three-game road trip on Tuesday, April 21, at Tulsa.
