Lawrence resident and former Kansas University golfer Chris Thompson finished in a tie for 44th place in the Cox Classic, a Nationwide Tour event played in Omaha, Neb. Thompson earned a spot in the tournament, his first nationwide event of the season, in a Monday qualifier. Thompson earned $2,755 and finished 12-under par in the tournament played at Champions Run. Thompson shot a 2-under 69 Sunday and finished three strokes out of the top 25, which would have earned him a spot in this week’s Nationwide event in Springfield, Mo.
J.J. Killeen shot a 3-under 69 to win for the second straight week on the Nationwide Tour.
