Nate Barbee, right, gets a fist bump from teammate Doug Quinones after the final round of the Kansas Invitational. The Jayhawks finished sixth on Tuesday at Alvamar.

Kansas University’s men’s golf team ended the final round of the Kansas Invitational in a tie for sixth place with Kansas State on Tuesday at Alvamar.

The Jayhawks shot a 293 on Tuesday and finished at 887 for the tournament.

Oklahoma City won the tourney with a 284 in the final round and an 865 total, giving it an 11-stroke victory over runner-up Nebraska.

Louisiana Monroe’s Gustaf Kocken claimed medalist honors with a 212 individual score.

Sophomore Chris Gilbert paced Kansas, tying for 15th individually with a score of 220.

Junior Doug Quinones tied for 24th at 222. Senior Nate Barbee tied for 31st at 224, as did freshman Alex Gutesha. Freshman Bryce Brown rounded out the team at 233 and a tie for 66th.

Barbee, who won the tournament last year, shot a 70 on Tuesday for a solid final round.

“He got out and got under par early and maintained it, so hopefully that’s another step in the right direction,” KU coach Kit Grove said of Barbee. “He’s getting close, but he’s not quite back there. He just needs to get a couple good rounds under his belt. Nobody works harder than he does … He just needs a couple more rounds like this.”

The Jayhawks will return to action Sept. 27-28 in the Colorado Invitational in Erie, Colo.
