Kansas University freshman libero Brianne Riley, who led the KU volleyball team with 3.67 digs per set in two matches last week, earned Big 12 Conference rookie of the week honors Monday.

The 5-foot-6 defensive specialist out of Benet Academy in Lisle, Ill., had 15 digs and was perfect in 34 service receptions Saturday to help KU to a 3-2 win over Texas A&M.

Riley became the first Jayhawk to earn a Big 12 weekly volleyball award since Karina Garlington and Nicole Tate earned offensive and rookie of the week honors, respectively, on Nov. 10, 2008.
