With next Wednesday’s National Signing Day quickly approaching, Kansas University’s football coaching staff padded its commitment list Thursday with the addition of a pair of three-star prospects.
According to Rivals.com, Dexter McDonald, a three-star cornerback from Kansas City’s Rockhurst High, has switched his commitment from Missouri to Kansas, while Katy, Texas, defensive end Keba Agostinho will commit to the team during his visit to Lawrence this weekend.
McDonald’s high school coach, Tony Severino, told the Web site that the 6-foot-2, 180 pound senior will take an official visit to Kansas this weekend, and Kansas coach Turner Gill is expected to visit Rockhurst today.
McDonald, who was recruited by KU running backs coach/recruiting coordinator Reggie Mitchell, is listed as the No. 12 overall prospect in the state of Missouri by Rivals and the 77th cornerback nationally. He received offers from Illinois, Missouri, Kansas and Iowa State.
His switch, meanwhile, marks the second of his recruitment. He was originally committed to play at Illinois, but switched his commitment to Missouri in December.
Agostinho, listed at 6-foot-3 and 250 pounds, helps lessen the blow of Geneo Grissom’s departure earlier this month. Grissom, a four-star defensive end from Hutchinson, committed to Kansas prior to Gill’s arrival, but later changed his commitment to Oklahoma.
The addition of McDonald and Agostinho gives Kansas 17 known commitments in the Class of 2010.
Dailey joins Gill staff
Former Nebraska quarterback and Buffalo assistant Joe Dailey has joined Gill’s Kansas staff as the program’s on-campus recruiting coordinator, a school spokesman said Thursday.
Dailey served as tight ends coach under Gill at Buffalo last season after spending the ’08 season as a graduate assistant and also spent two seasons — 2003 and ’04 — as a quarterback for the Huskers while Gill was an assistant there, starting one season before transferring to North Carolina.
