Mosley questionable for KU women at Mizzou

? Shaquina Mosley is the second-leading scorer and rebounder on Kansas University’s women’s basketball team. Mosley, a 5-foot-6 senior, also leads the Jayhawks in assists.

But Mosley has been ailing since suffering a first-degree concussion in Saturday’s Colorado game and is likely to see only limited duty – if she plays at all – tonight against Missouri.

Tipoff will be at 6:30 p.m. in the Mizzou Arena. The regular-season finale for both teams will not be televised.

Mosley has been held out of contact during practice this week, but has tried to stay in shape by riding a stationary bicycle. Team doctors have prescribed no contact.

“She’ll continue to be evaluated, and we’re cautiously optimistic,” KU coach Bonnie Henrickson said Wednesday about Mosley’s status.

If she can’t go, sophomore Ivana Catic will be her replacement.

Mosley was elbowed by Colorado’s Aija Putnina late in the Jayhawks’ 59-50 loss in Boulder, Colo. Putnina, a 6-3 forward, was ejected after the incident and was suspended for one game by the Big 12 Conference office.

Earlier this month, Mosley scored a career-high 22 points in the Jayhawks’ 67-57 loss to Missouri in Allen Fieldhouse. And if the prospect of playing without Mosley isn’t daunting enough, the Jayhawks will be facing a senior-dominated MU team on Senior Night.

Four MU starters – EeTisha Riddle, Carlynn Savant, Tiffany Brooks and Blair Hardiek – will be playing their last game in the Mizzou Arena.

“Our kids recognize that,” Henrickson said. “We can’t control it. We just have to go in with better focus and purpose.”

The Jayhawks, who have lost two straight after winning three of four, are in danger of posting only the second 20-loss season in school history. KU is 9-19 overall.

Kansas will travel to Oklahoma City next week to participate in the Big 12 Conference Tournament. With a victory tonight, KU can earn the tournament’s No. 11 seed.
