SAN JOSE, Calif. – Playing their second straight game without leading scorer/rebounder Danielle McCray, the Kansas women’s basketball team won its sixth straight Wednesday night, knocking off San Jose State 59-52 in the front end of a two-game California road swing.
Both of McCray’s roles on the stat sheet were filled by freshman forward Krysten Boogaard, who had a career night with 24 points on 10-of-14 shooting and 10 rebounds. McCray, who is listed as day-to-day still, was out due to a stress reaction in her lower left leg.
Kelly Kohn and Taylor McIntosh each scored eight, while Sade Morris, battling foul trouble, scored six. LaChelda Jacobs scored seven off the bench. Kohn and Morris each registered six assists.
KU as a team notched 17 assists on 22 field goals while pulling away in the final minutes after trailing earlier in the second half.
The Jayhawks (9-1), who received six votes in this week’s Associated Press Top 25 poll, will finish the road trip Friday night against No. 12 Cal (8-2). The Lady Bears have not played since Dec. 10, when they lost 56-51 to defending national runner-up Rutgers.
