Kansas University product Paige Higgins, 23, won the women’s full marathon Sunday at the Walt Disney World Marathon in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.
It was the first-ever marathon for Higgins, who ran at Kansas from 2000 to 2005.
Higgins won in a time of 2:51.38, beating second-place Amy Shertzer (2:59.14) by more than eight seconds.
About 31,000 runners, walkers and wheelchair athletes registered for the event.
