Boulder Colo. ? Pepperdine has faced more than its share of adversity this year under first-year coach Vance Walberg. Down to 10 available players, it didn’t matter Monday night to a team that broke its four-game losing streak with a 78-72 victory over Colorado.
“I’m down to eight scholarship players, and we lost three starters last week,” Walberg said. “My son (Jason) tore his ACL, and my starting point guard and center both quit, but that hasn’t taken the fight out of this team.
Chase Griffin had 18 points and nine rebounds, and Marvin Lea scored all of his 17 points in the second half to lead gritty Pepperdine to its victory.
Richard Roby had a season-high 32 points for Colorado (3-5), while Xavier Silas had 19 points, and Dominique Coleman had his first career double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
“It’s tough to win games with 21 turnovers,” Colorado coach Ricardo Patton said
