Stewart meets academic requirements

USC transfer Rodrick Stewart has met all academic requirements to attend Kansas University, his father, Bull Stewart, has confirmed to the Journal-World.

Rodrick’s father said his son would arrive on campus Monday and be ready for practice.

“My reaction is it’s great news, Bull Stewart said. “If you want to play college basketball, you go to Kansas. He’s ready to make the move.”

Rodrick Stewart, a 6-foot-4 sophomore who announced plans to transfer to KU last month, will be able to practice but not play in games until the end of the fall 2005 semester in December.

He averaged four points a game last year at USC, but had not played this season because of academic issues.

Also, Wayne Simien will definitely not play Sunday against Kentucky. The senior forward said he hoped he would be back next week, ideally for Wednesday’s game against Iowa State in Ames, Iowa.

“I’m always shooting for the next game,” Simien said. “Iowa State, they are contenders for the Big 12 Conference. It’s always a tough game in Ames. I’m definitely shooting for that one.”
