Football signings rolling in

By J-W Staff Reports     Feb 3, 2005

Kansas University’s football team has received National Letters of Intent from 14 incoming players, according to rivals.com.

The Jayhawks have signed expected recruits Rodney Allen, Josh Bell, Russell Brorsen, James Holt, Bobby Johnson, Raimond Pendleton and Justin Thornton.

Kansas also landed four players from the state of Kansas – Caleb Blakelsey, Kerry Meier, Darrell Stuckey and Adam Welty.

Coach Mark Mangino and his staff also have received a LOI from surprise recruit Arist Wright. The 6-foot, 200-pound athlete out of Alief, Texas, says he plans on playing outside linebacker for the Jayhawks after playing quarterback his senior season at Taylor.

Fellow Texan Angus Quigley also signed with Kansas. Quigley rushed for more than 1,400 yards last season, earning all-district and all-county honors. Quigley’s commitment reportedly means Aaron Brown no longer has an offer from KU.

Another surprise for KU came in the form of 6-3, 315-pound lineman Jonathan Throneberry, who chose Kansas over Northeastern Oklahoma A&M as a precursor to attending Oklahoma.

Kansas also received an oral commitment from Darius Warner, a 6-4, 270-pound defensive lineman who plans on playing at Butler County Community College for two years before joining the Jayhawks.

Junior college players Marcus Anderson, Paul Como, Jake Cox, Brian Murph, Eric Washington and Wayne Wilder already had signed with the Jayhawks.
