Jayhawks earn first victory on road

? Senior Aquanita Burras and junior Kaylee Brown each recorded career-high scoring nights as Kansas University’s women’s basketball team recorded its first road win of the season, winning, 80-66, Thursday night at Ball State.

“It was nice to get a victory on the road,” KU coach Bonnie Henrickson said. “We will now prepare for the Big 12 season.”

In the final tune-up before their Big 12 Conference opener next week, the Jayhawks (7-4) had five players score in double figures. Burras led the charge with a game-high 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting, while Brown added 19 points.

Junior Erica Hallman scored 16 points, and fellow junior Crystal Kemp recorded her fourth double-double of the season as she posted 14 points and grabbed a career-high 18 rebounds.

Freshman Taylor McIntosh rounded out the double-figure scorers with 11 points.

The Jayhawks led 32-28 at the half, and came out firing in the second period, shooting 54 percent in the half to pull away.

The Jayhawks held Ball State leading scorer Kate Endress to 6-of-25 shooting from the field. Endress led the Cardinals with 15 points, while teammate Tina Bolte added 10 points.

Kansas will open Big 12 play at 7 p.m. Wednesday against Texas in Austin, Texas.

With five assists, Hallman moved into 10th place on the KU all-time assists list. She needs two assists to move up to No. 9 on the list. … Freshman Taylor McIntosh’s 11 points tied a career-high. McIntosh has scored in double-figures three times this season. … Kansas has led at halftime in nine of 11 games this season. … Tonight marked the fourth-straight game and sixth time overall KU has had three or more players score in double figures. … Hallman made multiple three-point field goals in her third straight and sixth game this season. … Hallman’s six rebounds tied a career high. … Kansas’ 80 points tonight were the second most this season. KU had 84 points against Dartmouth. … KU forced 20 turnovers to mark the fourth time this season the Jayhawks have forced 20 or more turnovers.
