KU/Baylor notes

Last meeting: KU led 32-24 in last year’s game at Baylor before the Bears scored 11 points in the final 78 seconds. KU missed a 34-yard field goal, an extra point and twice failed to convert two-point conversion attempts in the three-point loss.

Home again: Today is KU’s homecoming game. The Jayhawks are 38-47-5 in homecoming games.

Scoring machine: Kansas has scored 35 or more points in five straight games for the first time in school history (46 vs. UNLV, 42 at Wyoming, 41 vs. Jacksonville State, 35 vs. Missouri and 47 at Colorado).

More on CU: KU’s 47 points against the Buffaloes were the Jayhawks’ most ever in a loss. … Kansas averaged 8.6 yards per play and finished with 586 yards on 68 plays.

On the run: KU quarterback Bill Whittemore has rushed for seven touchdowns, including two TDs in each of the last three games. He is third on KU’s career list for touchdown runs by a quarterback with 18. Chip Hilleary (1989-92) tops the list with 23. Bobby Douglass (1966-68) had 19.

More on Whittemore: KU’s quarterback is tied for fourth on the school’s list for career TD passes with 24, matching Kelly Donahoe (1986-89) and Mike Norseth (1984-85). David Jaynes (1971-73) tops the list with 35. Frank Seurer (1980-83) is second with 30, and Hilleary is third with 25.

Remember me: Baylor receiver J.T. Thompson started his collegiate career at KU in 2000. The Kilgore, Texas, native caught eight passes for 130 yards as a freshman. He has six catches for 28 yards this season.

Lone Star State: KU has 16 Texans on its roster.

We like his chances: Sophomore Greg Heaggans ranks second on KU’s career list for kickoff return yardage with 955. Maurice Douglas (1988-89) set the record with 1,077.

Road kill: Baylor has lost 16 straight road games and 30 consecutive conference road games. Kansas is 3-1 at home.

New role: Kansas is favored for the first time in five games against Division I-A opponents this season.
