Free State High senior Ryne Price will join older brother Ritchie Price and dad Ritch Price on Kansas University’s baseball team in 2005.

“Our coaching staff is thrilled that Ryne chose to stay home and become a Jayhawk,” KU coach Ritch Price said. “Ryne is one of the top high school catchers in the country and is an outstanding offensive player.”

As a junior last spring, Ryne helped the Firebirds reach the Class 6A state baseball tournament by hitting a team-leading .497. Younger brother Robby, now a FSHS sophomore, also was a member of that Free State team.

Ritchie, the oldest of the three Price brothers, is a sophomore infielder on the KU team.

Also signing with the Jayhawks were:

  • Tyson Corley, a 6-foot-5 right-handed pitcher from Mill Valley High. Corley posted a 10-3 record and a 2.21 earned-run average in American Legion ball last summer.
  • Kyle Klem, a 6-3 pitcher-outfielder from Thunder Ridge High in Highland Ranch, Colo. Klem is a two-time member of the Colorado Junior Olympics team.
  • Erik Morrison, a 6-3 middle infielder from Arroyo Grande, Calif. Morrison was a teammate of Ryne Price and Robby Price on the San Luis Obispo Firestone Rangers team that won the USABF championship last summer.
  • Gus Milner, an outfielder from Olathe North who is now a sophomore at Hutchinson Community College. Milner hit .310 at Hutch CC as a freshman.
  • Brock Simpson, a 6-3 third baseman from Washburn Rural. Simpson hit .409 for the Junior Blues last spring. Simpson had narrowed his college choices to Kansas and Nebraska.

“Our goal for the 2005 class was to balance our roster and focus on outstanding high school players,” KU coach Price said. “Because we have only seven seniors on the 2004 roster, this is a small recruiting class. But these young men have the ability to play any place in the country.”
