The Jayhawks looked shaky early in head coach Bill Self’s debut and trailed by as many as 10 points early in the second half, but fought back for a 91-87 victory Tuesday at Allen Fieldhouse.

KU’s big men led the comeback, as Jeff Graves gave the Jayhawks their first lead of the second half with a scoring streak midway through the period. Graves finished with 11 points, nine after halftime.

Junior forward Wayne Simien also had a solid second half, scoring all 14 of his points after the break. He also grabbed seven rebounds. Freshman center David Padgett had a couple big baskets for KU and finished with 16 points.

The Jayhawks led midway through the first half before the All-Stars went on a three-point scoring binge. EA Sports were 5-of-16 shooting from three-point range in the first half and led, 40-33, at halftime. The All-Stars shot even better after intermission, hitting 11 of 17 three-pointers in the second half.

Michael Lee gave KU the lead for good with back-to-back layups late in the second half and had six points in an 8-0 run that broke open a 74-all tie. Lee finished with 11 points.

Aaron Miles led KU with 18 points and added seven assists and six rebounds. Jeff Hawkins had eight points and J.R. Giddens had six. Moulaye Niang had four points, Bryant Nash hit a three-pointer, and Jeremy Case hit a free throw.

The Jayhawks shot 72 percent in the second half, and outrebounded the All-Stars, 38-30.

Mike Brownlee had 26 points for the All-Stars, and Robert O’Kelly had 18 points.

Self started Padgett, Miles, Bryant Nash, Michael Lee and Simien. Junior guard Keith Langford is not playing because of his knee, which he had surgery on before Late Night.
