STILLWATER, OKLA. ? Kansas University’s softball team was off to its best start since the 1992 College World Series squad won 18 of its first 21 games.
Sunday, Oklahoma State’s Lauren Bay cooled the Jayhawks in the Big 12 Conference openers for both teams. The Cowboys swept a twinbill, 2-1 in 11 innings, and 5-2.
In the first game, Bay (11-3) allowed only one hit, walked two and struck out 23 in 11 innings.
Hard-luck loser Kara Pierce scattered seven hits in 101/3 innings. She struck out eight and walked two.
Bay’s 23 strikeouts broke the school record of 19 she shared with Melanie Roche. She also picked up her third save of the season in the nightcap.
