Wichita ? Crystal Kemp had 15 points and eight rebounds, but Kansas University’s women’s basketball squad couldn’t compete with Wichita State, losing 84-58 on Wednesday night at O’Shaughnessy Hall.
The Shockers outrebounded the Jayhawks, 44-32, and forced 21 turnovers, including eight from sophomore Blair Waltz. She finished with just two points on 1-for-6 shooting.
Both teams shot 38 percent from the floor in the first half, but the Shockers made 11 of 13 free throws while the Jayhawks never went to the line, and WSU (5-2) led 42-26 at halftime.
Kansas’ shooting got worse in the second half. The Jayhawks hit only eight of 25 second-half shots, including one of seven from behind the three-point arc. Kansas finished having hit 35 percent of its field goals.
Erica Hallman added 13 and Tamara Ransburg 11 for Kansas (4-2), which lost its second straight game after four consecutive wins. The Jayhawks still need only one more win to equal last season’s total.
