KU bowlers place third at national tournament

? Kansas University’s men’s bowling club team placed third in a 52-team field Saturday at the National Collegiate Team Match Games, the largest event of the fall semester.

Morehead State University won the event with a 12,931 pinfall total, followed by Wichita State (12,725) and KU (12,568), which entered the tournament ranked seventh in the nation. West Texas A&M (12,350) and Saginaw Valley State (12,333) rounded out the top five.

Jesse James led KU with an average of 213 and an eighth-place finish. Jason Elliott also averaged 213 and placed 10th. Marc D’Errico averaged 208 and was 18th. Other KU averages were: Jason Reese 204, Rhino Page 202 and Alan Emmons 196.

KU’s women finished 28th in a 36-team field with a score of 8,339. West Texas A&M won with a 12,604 total, and WSU was runner-up at 12,386. Indiana State (11,980), Central Missouri State (11,878) and Morehead State (11,771) rounded out the top five.

Kristina Boehm was 28th for KU with a 196 average. Other KU scores were: Annettia Manthei 185, Kelly Zaph 184, Kelly Sanders 172, Alecia Savage 170 and Sarah Roenfeldt 169.

The Jayhawks travel this weekend to Moline, Ill.
