Relays, spring game clash

Take a good look at Kansas University’s spring sports calendar and you’ll see what appears to be a big mix-up.

The date for KU’s spring football game Saturday, April 21 is the final day of the Kansas Relays, which run April 18-21.

Both events are slated for Kansas’ Memorial Stadium.

The last event of the Relays the 1,600 relay, which figures to feature popular Olympian Maurice Greene starts about 6 p.m., meaning the spring game would have to start about 8 Saturday night.

Perhaps the spring game could be moved to Monday night, April 22?

“We’re exploring several options of how to stage the spring football game,” KU assistant athletics director Doug Vance said.

Spring football starts on March 29, which coincides with the NCAA Final Four. If KU’s basketball team reaches the Final Four, the start of spring football could be pushed back a week to accommodate KU basketball/football player Mario Kinsey, who is expected to vie for starting quarterback duties at KU next year.
