Hoyas humble Kansas women in first round, 70-57

? Three Hoyas had career nights at Kansas University’s expense Friday.

After a close first half, Georgetown’s women’s basketball team pulled away from Kansas for a 70-57 victory in the first round of the St. Joseph’s Classic.

Nok Duany led Georgetown with a career-high 20 points. Guard Lesley Walker posted a double double with 13 points and career-high 12 assists. Suzy Bendegue a 6-foot-10 center came off the bench and tied her career high with 11 rebounds and blocked three shots.

KU made a season-low 11 turnovers but shot a season-low 32.8 percent (21-of-64) from the field. Georgetown shot 52.8 percent (28 of 53).

The Jayhawks (4-8) led 26-19 with 8:16 left in the first half before the Hoyas (8-2) rallied. Joi Irby’s three-pointer with 20 seconds left gave Georgetown a 31-30 halftime lead.

Center Kristin Geoffroy led KU with 11 points, and guard KC Hilgenkamp had 10.

KU played without center Nikki White, who suffered a hamstring injury on Thursday.

Kansas, which has lost five of six, faces winless Morgan State (0-10) in a consolation game at 1 p.m. today. Host St. Joseph’s defeated Morgan State, 99-51.
