Kansas University swimmers Beth Schryer and Carrie Kirkham each captured individual titles on Sunday, helping KU’s women’s swimming team to a third-place finish at the Minnesota Invitational.
Minnesota placed first with 944.5 points, followed by Wisconsin (837.5), KU (643), Iowa (610), Iowa State (537), North Dakota (188), St. Olaf (88), Carleton (17) and Concordia (16).
Schryer won the 1,650 freestyle in 17:01.96 17 seconds ahead of her closest competitor. KU’s Sarah Ross was third in 17:23.02. Kirkham was first in the 100 free in 51.68. Carolyn Grevers placed third in in 52.32 seconds.
Kirkham and Grevers anchored KU’s 200 and 400 freestyle relays to third-place finishes. Sophomore Gwen Haley was fourth in the 200 butterfly and eighth in the 200 breaststroke.
