The Kansas men’s basketball program has been busy passing out scholarship offers to players in the next two prep classes this week, according to several Twitter accounts.
After receiving offers, many prospects typically post messages to their social media accounts, complete with photos of past players or the arena from the program offering them along with a short message reporting the news.
Ten new Kansas offers were reported this week alone.
It’s still too early to know exactly how many spots KU coach Bill Self and his staff will have to fill in the 2021 and 2022 classes. Graduation, players turning pro, transfers and other factors will determine the final number. But the KU coaching staff appears to be zeroing in on some of the players it wants most in each of those classes.
Not surprisingly, most of them are highly ranked prospects according to Rivals.com and 247Sports.
Here’s a quick look at the latest players to announce offers from Kansas, which already was in on several four- and five-star prospects in both classes.
**• J.D. Davison – 6-foot-3, 180-pound PG, class of 2021**
One of the top-ranked point guards in his class, Davison is known as an explosive play maker who can attack off the dribble with both hands. A senior-to-be at Calhoun High in Letohatchee, Ala., this four-star prospect ranked No. 26 overall in the 2021 class currently has 11 offers and more on the way. Most of them currently are from schools in the SEC, with KU, Iowa State and St. Louis representing the Midwest.
**• Rahsool Diggins – 6-2, 180-pound PG, class of 2021**
Ranked seventh at his position and 43rd overall in the 2021 class, Diggins hails from Archbishop Wood Catholic School in Warminster, Pa. A four-star prospect with more than 20 offers currently in the bag, Diggins has made visits to Rutgers and DePaul. KU is currently the biggest program on Diggins’ offer list, but more elite programs could soon join them. The list already includes Florida, Penn State, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest and Xavier.
**• Nolan Hickman – 6-1, 170-pound PG, class of 2021**
Ranked No. 81 in the class by Rivals, Hickman hails from Eastside Catholic High in Sammamish, Wash. According to Rivals’ database, the four-star guard currently has offers from KU, Cal Poly, Oklahoma and Oregon State, and he is also receiving heavy interest from local Pac-12 programs Washington and Washington State.
**• Sadraque Nganga – 6-9, 205-pound PF, class of 2022**
Listed as a guard/forward by his high school team, Compass Prep in Chandler, Ariz., Nganga is known as a terrific athlete with all kinds of potential to rise even higher in the rankings the stronger and more experienced he becomes. He currently is listed as a five-star prospect ranked No. 15 in the 2022 class. Known as a hybrid big man, Nganga can play in the post or utilize his strong face-up game to attack defenses.
**• Kijani Wright – 6-8, 210-pound PF, class of 2022**
A five-star prospect, ranked No. 11 overall in his class per Rivals.com, Wright hails from Windward High in Los Angeles. Known as one of the West Coast’s premier big men, Wright has drawn comparisons to former Kentucky standout Julius Randle for his physical style of play.
**• Rylan Griffen – 6-5, 175-pound SG, class of 2022**
This Richardson (Texas) High prospect is ranked by Rivals as the fifth-best player in the Lone Star State and the No. 53 overall player in the 2022 class. A smooth-shooting scorer who uses his length to his advantage, Griffen currently has nine offers, with four of them coming from Big 12 country in KU, Kansas State, Oklahoma State and TCU.
**• Daimion Collins – 6-8, 180-pound PF, class of 2021**
This four-star prospect from Atlanta, Texas, currently has 16 offers, including seven from programs in the Big 12. USC is the lone outlier on his offer sheet right now and most of the major interest here is coming from in-state programs as well as Kansas, Arkansas and Louisiana. Rivals ranks Collins as the No. 22 overall prospect in his class, and analyst Corey Evans wrote recently that Texas could be the team to beat here.
**• Efton Reid – 7-foot, 215-pound C, class of 2021**
AAU program Team Loaded (David McCormack’s former squad) announced the offer for the 7-foot center from the Steward School in Richmond, Va. A four-star prospect ranked No. 27 nationally in the 2021 class, Reid currently owns more than 20 offers and is drawing interest from some of the biggest programs in college basketball — KU, Florida, Louisville, North Carolina, Kentucky, etc. — along with in-state programs Virginia, VCU and Virginia Tech.
