The Kansas men’s basketball team enters the final week of the 2019-20 regular season as the unanimous No. 1 team in college basketball.
One week after sharing first-place votes with Baylor in the Associated Press Top 25 poll (62-2), the Jayhawks picked up all 64 votes for the No. 1 spot in this week’s poll and Baylor fell from No. 2 to No. 4 following a weekend loss to TCU.
Gonzaga moved into the No. 2 spot in the newest poll and Dayton, which has lost just once since falling to KU in the finals of the Maui Invitational, moved up to No. 3.
San Diego State, Kentucky, Florida State, Seton Hall, Maryland and Louisville round out this week’s Top 10.
Kansas (26-3 overall, 15-1 Big 12) now has been ranked in 218 consecutive AP polls, bringing the Jayhawks closer to eclipsing UCLA’s all-time record of 221 consecutive weeks in the AP Top 25.
The Jayhawks, who lead Baylor by a game in the race for the Big 12 title, close out the regular season with a home game against TCU on Wednesday and a trip to Lubbock, Texas, to face Texas Tech on Saturday.
Baylor, meanwhile, caps its regular season schedule with a home game against Texas Tech tonight (8 p.m. on ESPN) and at West Virginia on Saturday.
A Baylor loss tonight or a KU win on Wednesday would clinch at least a share of the title for the Jayhawks, who finished third last season after winning an NCAA-record 14 consecutive conference titles from 2005-18.
**RISING/FALLING**
No. 16 Michigan State had the week’s biggest jump, moving up eight spots following victories over Iowa and Maryland. No. 8 Seton Hall has its highest ranking since reaching No. 7 in 2000-01 after moving up five spots. The Pirates beat Marquette last week.
No. 25 Michigan had the biggest drop among teams still in the poll, falling six spots after losing to Wisconsin and Ohio State. No. 12 Duke lost five places following losses to Wake Forest and Virginia.
**MOVING IN**
Reigning national champion Virginia returned to the poll at No. 22 after knocking off Virginia Tech and Duke.
Illinois moved in at No. 23 following wins over Indiana and Ohio State. No. 24 Wisconsin is ranked for the first time this season after victories against No. 25 Michigan and Minnesota.
**MOVING OUT**
West Virginia dropped out of the poll from No. 20 after losses to unranked Texas and Oklahoma. Colorado also had a pair of losses to unranked opponents, California and Stanford, to fall out from No. 21. Texas Tech had the same type of week, losing to Texas and Oklahoma, to drop out from No. 22.
