Spring football scoop

By Staff     Feb 29, 2008

The dust has been blown off. Sawin’ Wood is back. The month of March will be big for this blog, and I know both of you loyal readers (mom and dad) were waiting for its return. Spring football will be discussed frequently here, with KU updates, position-competition speculation (that was a mouthful) and the trusty ‘ol links from around the Big 12 Conference as news happens. After all, what else is going on in March to warrant a college sports fan’s time? That’s right. Nothing. To kick it off, here’s a little tidbit of news:**- Spring practice** will start on March 12, following a press conference that will preview things the day before. KU coach Mark Mangino has opened up two practices to the general public: On **March 14** and **April 4**. Both practices start at 3:30 p.m. on the practice fields adjacent to Hoglund Ballpark. Anyone can come. Even you.**- While you’re at those practice fields**, be sure to collect a little bit of dirt, put it in a jar and fight back your tears. This spring probably will be the last time that troublesome patch is used for football. The new practice fields next to Memorial Stadium are scheduled to be ready for preseason camp.**- The spring game** is set for April 12 (a Saturday) at Memorial Stadium. Kickoff time has not been announced yet.**- Personal note:** My itty-bitty nephew came into the world yesterday, 22 hours short of being a [ leap day baby][1]. Too bad. He would’ve been only the [13th leap day-born player][2] in Major League Baseball history when he makes his debut in 2030.That’s all today. I’ll check back in next week.
