Checking the egos at the door.Considering KU’s football team is succeeding at a rate that’s rarely been done around these parts, it’s easy to think the Jayhawks might be getting full of themselves with a 6-0 record. But it doesn’t appear to be the case.”Six wins,” KU coach Mark Mangino said Tuesday, “doesn’t mean a whole lot.”It appears, too, that the grizzled veterans are trying their best to put the young guys in their place. After KU emerged ranked 13th in the latest BCS standings, the teenagers on the team got a little excited, according to linebacker Joe Mortensen.”We’ve got younger guys talking about BCS and all that stuff,” Mortensen said. “I said ‘Hey, you can’t say that. We’ve got six more games. We can’t look that far ahead. You don’t want to put your foot in your mouth.'”This is week one. We’re 0-0, and we’ve got to go get this win.”Other things discussed Tuesday:**- Punter Kyle Tucker** said he found a fundamental glitch in his punting, and he feels he has it corrected now. “I’m not down at all,” he said.Of course, going to Colorado to punt in the thin air would be great for confidence if that’s an issue at all.**- Dezmon Briscoe and Anthony Webb** both returned punts against Baylor, but don’t expect the duties to be split. Coach Mark Mangino said they plan to make one of them the guy before the Colorado game.**- Freshman running back Carmon Boyd-Anderson** did not play against Baylor even though backups Donte Bean and Angus Quigley did. Mangino said that Boyd-Anderson hit a freshman wall of sorts but was still battling for the No. 3 tailback spot with Bean and Quigley.**- Jake Sharp was named offensive** player of the game for the Baylor game. Chris Harris and Mike Rivera split the honor for defense, and Marcus Herford was cited for special teams.**- The kickoff for Saturday’s game** is at 4:31 CST. It was announced earlier that the start would be at 4:45 p.m., but it’s going to be 14 minutes before that. No word on how ESPN will fill the 4:30-4:31 slot.
