“We haven’t lined up and did a real relay race.”Classic words out of the mouth of Aqib Talib, KU’s outgoing junior cornerback. He was asked to respond to a K-State player who claimed Monday that the Wildcats were a faster team than Kansas.A relay race? That sounds like fun.”I can set something up if that’s what they want to do,” Talib said with a smile.Don’t worry. It doesn’t sound like this week will be a war of words. Tom Keegan and I went to Manhattan yesterday and heard nothing too spicy, though Justin McKinney did speak of his team’s supposed superior team speed to a different reporter.Though Talib was having fun with his track-and-field dreams, everyone else kept any battle cries to themselves Tuesday in Lawrence. It’s a business-like week, with a crucial finish to it Saturday morning. Here are the nuts and bolts of Tuesday’s press conference:**- Junior cornerback Kendrick Harper** is ready to go, and coach Mark Mangino expects Harper to play against the Wildcats. Harper has been out since Aug. 3 with an injury.**- Mangino said the coaches** are pretty well insulated from the surrounding hype of the Kansas-Kansas State game, “unless someone gives me a thumbs up at a red light.”**- From Monday,** Kansas State’s Jordy Nelson (offense) and Ian Campbell (defense) and Colorado’s Chase McBride (special teams) won Big 12 player-of-the-week honors. Besides Nelson’s tremendous game against Texas, it was a pretty uneventful week in terms of individual performances. I voted for the three who won. That’s about it. Check back to KUSports.com, we plan on amping up the coverage this week because this game certainly is worth it.
