I’m your lightning rod, Ryan Wood.The hope is that this blog can provide an offbeat and very frequent stop to discuss the in’s and out’s of KU football and our coverage of KU football, especially during the maddening season that’s now right around the corner.The plan is to update this several times a week. I’ll give a quick recap of what goes on at Mark Mangino’s press conference when I get back to the [office][1] Tuesday afternoon. I plan to have a day of links, where I provide a snippet of what’s going on across the Big 12. I’ll answer some reader mail. Maybe I can tell jokes. (Two guys walk into a bar. The third one ducks. Nyuk!)The first quest that was conquered was the blog name:Sawin’ Wood. It’s a well known creed that Mark Mangino adopted and endlessly preached when he was hired in 2002. [Give up 309 rushing yards to Chris Brown?][2] Gotta keep sawin’ wood. [Bill Whittemore hurt?][3] Keep sawin’ wood. The truth is, Mangino has since abandoned the slogan for the most part, at least to us scribes. Honestly, I’ve heard him say it maybe once since joining the beat in 2004 (I also heard him mention that his early defenses at KU couldn’t stop his grandmother’s cat. The guy occasionally lets his humor out). Mangino did receive a saw as a gift during the 2005 football banquet, which he told me he may use to cut his desk in half if he’s having a bad day. No word on if that ever happened.So here’s your introduction, and here’s hoping you [ bookmark this blog][4] and come back for more. I promise you this: this blog will never be [Sports-Guy-long.][5] I hope it’s always insightful, giving you one more reason to keep KUSports.com as your number one home for Jayhawk news.
