I have the act of booing down to an art form.In my years as a sports fan, I’ve booed Brian Griese, Nick Van Exel, Ed Hochuli, and most of all Dante Bichette. To be honest, I enjoy my right to boo. If sports teams can raise ticket prices every season, I have the right to show my disgust with the product. But I’ve never booed a college player or an amateur. Ever.I just wish that KU fans could show an equal amount of restraint. This past Saturday at Allen Fieldhouse, somebody [crossed the line.][1] Late in the second half of KU’s miserable 63-61 loss to Iowa State, some Jayhawk fans had the audacity to boo J.R. Giddens. ![][2]The behavior was simply the latest outburst from the most spoiled fans in college basketball. Granted, Giddens was in the midst of a 3-16 shooting day, but it’s not like he was trying to make like the 1919 White Sox.”People don’t screw up on purpose, especially with stakes this high,” Jayhawk coach Bill Self said. “That said, that stuff doesn’t help one’s confidence.”As the season goes downhill, Giddens can’t even look at his classmates for support. But if you’re going to boo why boo Giddens?Besides the confidence jolt, there are more important factors in the Jayhawks’ slump than Giddens. Blaming J.R. for the recent losing streak is like blaming Kyle MacLachlan for [Showgirls.][3] MacLachlan played a part, but he wasn’t the one doing the dancing or the directing. The lead dancer in KU’s recent slide has been none other than Keith Langford, whose obvious flaws have been masked by his ability to make the big shot. Langford has rarely pieced together a complete game this season. Langford hasn’t hit a three pointer in a week. Langford has been recently abused on defense. He didn’t raise his arms while Curtis Stinson drained the game winner on Saturday. The director in this recent nightmare has been Self, who has not developed any significant depth this season. Bench scoring this season has been a myth, like the loch ness monster. It’s a sad state of affairs when an injury to walk-on Christian Moody turns your season south.”We don’t have anybody to throw the ball to Wayne,” Self said. And whose fault is that?Negativity aside, don’t be fooled by the recent three-game losing streak. This is a talented and at times determined team that will be very dangerous over the next month. But whatever happens on Sunday against Oklahoma State, do everybody a favor.Don’t boo. This team can use all the help it can get right now.**Bonnie For President** At the beginning of the season, I said that if Bonnie Henrickson can get the Jayhawks to nine wins, she should be the Big 12 Coach of the Year.Right now, KU is 12-12 and looking like the number eight seed in the conference tournament.Despite having zero depth, Henrickson has guided her team to two road conference wins and an upset of Nebraska on Sunday. So I’m starting the campaign right now.Bonnie for coach of the year or bust.
