But that’s not all. Their off-the-field problems make the Missouri basketball program look like a well-oiled machine. From alleged rapes to a bumbling, stumbling 1-4 conference record, Colorado coach Gary Barnett has achieved the impossible. His program is the punch line for more jokes than your Kansas Jayhawks. When I was growing up in Colorado, the Buffs were the roaring monsters of the Big 8. Now, Buffalo sightings near the top of the conference standings are rarer than Democrats in Kansas. By this time next year, Barnett will be put to pasture. * Believe it or not, I watched the failure of Bistate II last night with some concern. In a [previous blog][2], I stated my reasons why this was a bad plan. However, like any good John Kerry supporter, I did a little bit of “flip-flopping” in the last few days. Will there really be a better option? Is Kansas City too divided to get a better option done? Don’t get me wrong I still think that the Kansas side of the state line will come up with a suitable plan but I’m more worried today about the future of the Royals and Chiefs than I was two weeks ago. * This might be very un-Jayhawk of me to say, but I can’t think of a single reason to attend Sunday night’s exhibition opener against Emporia State. Yes, KU will win the national title this year (my reasons will be outlined in a future blog, you know, when it’s basketball season), but watching the Jayhawks beat the Hornets by 50 is hardly my idea of a good time. Besides, I would spend the whole time worrying about Wayne Simien getting injured. I think I’ll go see [Ray][3] instead, even though, for some reason, there’s no late show at South Wind 12.**Week Ten Picks: Kansas 3, Colorado 2:** Watching these two offenses will be more brutal than repeated viewings of [Envy][4] Mercifully, the Jayhawks earn their second conference win. **Lawrence High 24, Blue Valley Northwest 20:** Lions build momentum from last week’s laugher and move on in the state playoffs. Shawnee Mission West 33, Free State 27: I’ve picked the Firebirds to lose the last two weeks (both Free State wins). Let’s keep the good karma rolling. **Tampa Bay 17, Chiefs 10:** My [least favorite quarterback in the league][5] (Bob Griese’s daughter) helps send the Chiefs spiraling back to Earth. **Upset Special: Texas A&M 77, Oklahoma 0** The Aggies get a little payback against the Sooners in College Station.**Big Tex’s Picks (Once again, Romary’s record has been withheld to protect the guilty) Kansas 7, Colorado 6:** Let’s just call this the anti-2003 game.
