Each week the KUsports.com staff picks the winners of six college football games.
This weekend, there is only one game on which everyone agreed. Maybe — just maybe — the previous week’s outcome for Kansas football played an influence. While Kansas vs. Memphis might not have inspired much variety, at least some big-time college matchups and the subject of video games did.

QUESTION OF THE WEEK
——————–
**(Supposedly) Saturday is National Video Games Day. What is your all-time favorite video game?**
Last week: 6-0
> I only had a Nintendo 64 growing up,
> so I was and still am awful at most
> video games. The only three video
> games that I’ve been really good at
> are Ken Griffey Jr. Slugfest, NFL
> Blitz 2001 and Mario Kart. I’ll give
> the nod to NFL Blitz 2001.
—
Last week: 5-1
> I never really liked video games much.
> I much prefer(red) pin ball and that
> [shuffle bowling game][2] where you
> slide the disk and knock the pins
> back. I also like the [tabletop hockey
> game][3] in which I could beat
> everybody in my grade school except
> Terry Barnes.
—
Last week: 5-1
> Mario Kart on the Nintendo 64. I used
> to play it nightly with my dad and
> brother.
—
Last week: 5-1
> Galaga (old school)
—
Last week: 4-2
> If I were to go all the way back to my
> Atari days (yep, I said it), I’d have
> to go with One-on-One: Dr. J vs. Larry
> Bird. I’m sure that game can’t hold a
> candle to any basketball game that
> came after it (even Double Dribble),
> but something about it got me. Maybe
> it was the idea that I was playing
> with two legends or maybe it was the
> fact that I was 6 years old and had no
> idea what I was doing in any aspect of
> life anyway. Either way it was
> awesome. Others that deserve mention
> here (and I’ve gotta be honest, I
> rarely ever played non-sports video
> games): Baseball Stars for the
> original Nintendo. That was the first
> game I remember that you could make
> your own team and players; NHL ’95 for
> Sega Genesis. Sadly, I used Detroit’s
> Sergei Fedorov and Steve Yzerman to do
> my damage (the Colorado Avalanche
> weren’t a team yet); And another
> Genesis game Coach K College
> Basketball, in which I used Duke and
> Cherokee Parks, another buddy used
> Georgia Tech and Stephon Marbury and
> the third regular in our rotation of
> roundball wars used Syracuse and
> Lawrence Moten. I can recall one
> particular game where the Yellow
> Jackets were wearing out the Orangemen
> and my buddy went into the “locker
> room” at halftime and had some choice
> words for Moten, who was playing like
> a dog.
—
Last week: 4-2
> Mattel Electronic Football. The
> original handheld. Nothing but posers
> since.
—
Last week: 4-2
> Oh, man … Asteroids, Joust, Tron,
> Dig Dug, Tempest, Centipede, Space
> Invaders and the granddaddy, Galaga,
> all ate more more of my allowance
> quarters than I’d like to admit, and I
> have a special fondness for
> home-console classics like Tank Battle
> and Defender and Pitfall!, but I’ll
> have to go with the one that made all
> the others possible, Pong.
—
Last week: 4-2
> Super Mario 64 (with Mario Kart a
> close second).
—
Last week: 4-2
> This is tough, so I’ll go with my
> favorites from three different eras.
> Nintendo — Super Mario Bros. 3.
> PlayStation/PS2 — EA Sports’ NCAA
> Football. PS3 — Batman: Arkham Asylum.
—
Last week: 3-3
> Pong, the first video game I ever
> played, never has been topped.
> Unsophisticated, yet brilliant. I
> understand it caused countless college
> students to flunk out because they
> would alternate playing Pong with
> staring hours on end at lava lamps
> while scarfing pizza with a towel
> stuffed under the door crack.
