The 2020-21 college basketball season is slated to get underway this week.

Kansas will open the year with a matchup against top-ranked Gonzaga at 12:30 p.m. Thursday in the Rocket Mortgage Fort Myers Tip-Off. KU would then play Saint Joseph’s at 1 p.m. Friday.

The Jayhawks, who are ranked No. 6 entering the season, were considered the favorite to win the NCAA Tournament before the postseason was canceled. Gonzaga, which got 28 first-place votes in the AP Poll, would also have been in the mix.

Kansas coach Bill Self, along with players Marcus Garrett and Christian Braun, spoke to the media via zoom on Monday ahead of the season opener.
