Self: College hoops world can’t help but talk about Diallo

By Staff     Nov 9, 2015

Kansas basketball coach Bill Self says the longer freshman big man Cheick Diallo goes without getting a ruling on his eligibility the more buzz and attention the situation will draw.

In the meantime, Self says there is competition inside to see who will play the 5 position, whether that’s Jamari Traylor, Hunter Mickelson, Carlton Bragg or Landen Lucas — or possibly Diallo.

While most expected senior forward Perry Ellis to be locked in as one of KU’s post players, Self reveals Ellis also will play on the perimeter a lot this season, based on what the coach has seen from KU’s options at small forward.

Of utmost importance to Self is Kansas improving defensively on the wing, and the coach thinks Ellis can do a better job than KU’s other wings showed in the exhibition opener vs. Pittsburg State.

Self has no problem playing a big lineup if that makes KU better defensively on the perimeter.
