Jake Love breaks out against Central Michigan

By Staff     Sep 20, 2014

**1. Jake Love** — Monster day from the oft-overlooked linebacker. Five tackles, four for loss, one sack and two huge plays late in the game to end the CMU threat. “Really big plays that changed the momentum,” teammate Michael Reynolds said. “Took the air right out of them.”

**2. Tony Pierson** — Preventing the first half offense from being completely worthless, Pierson streaked down the left sideline for 74-yard TD run on first snap. He finished with 89 total yards and sported stylish glasses after the game.

**3. Michael Reynolds** — Picked up his first sack of the season with a big-time move off the edge that also allowed him to force a fumble. Finished with three tackles in the run game, as well.

**4. JaCorey Shepherd** — Cornerback made a highlight-reel interception, going horizontal near the sideline, to seal the game and also showed good toughness and solid skills in the return game. Five tackles, one interception and one pass break-up

**5. Justin McCay** — One week after being praised for blocking and physical play, McCay stood out for his production. Two receptions for 66 yards, including a huge 60-yard TD that proved to be the game-winner.

**6. Jimmay Mundine** — Had six catches for 67 yards and kept the chains moving all day.

**7. Montell Cozart** — Made the throws he had to make and looked much better running the offense overall. Passed up running opportunities in the first half, but did a better job with that the second half. Staying mostly with short passes, Cozart completed 22 of 33 with 226 yards and two touchdowns. He was sacked once and threw one interception on a play in which the football was rocked loose from Tony Pierson and caught by a Chippewa before it fell to the ground.

**8. Ben Heeney** — Ho, hum, seven tackles, forced fumble, a QB hurry and two tackles for loss — all kinds of energy. Just another day at the office for Captain Heeney.

**9. Corey Avery** — Carried 11 times for 37 tough yards and added two receptions for 34 yards, including a 30-yard TD that sealed the deal.

**10. Pat Lewandowski** — Made the key block that enabled Avery to turn a screen pass into a 30-yard TD. “That whole play is dependent on the tackle getting a block on the second level, the whole play. When he got in the way, we scored, it’s a two-score game and the game is basically over,” Weis said.
