Masked man tops Keegan Ratings

By Staff     Jan 31, 2009

After each KU basketball game this season, this is where you can find out the hardwood equivalent of The Nielsen Ratings from Journal-World sports editor Tom Keegan. He’ll rate the Jayhawk scholarship players’ individual performances, telling you who was worth tuning in to watch. If you agree or maybe even differ, make sure to comment and tell Tom how you really feel. (Scoring: Each week, the top player in the ratings will be awarded 10 points. Second best gets nine points. Third best gets eight points, and so on and so on. The season standings are at the bottom.)

1. Cole Aldrich: The masked man dominated the first half with 13 of his 15 points and nine of his 13 rebounds and both of his blocked shots. It’s much easier to bust his nose than his passion for the game.

2. Markieff Morris: Had 10 points and four offensive rebounds, both career highs, and played just 12 minutes.

3. Brady Morningstar: Scored all 10 of his points in the first half, the second big first half in a row for him.

4. Sherron Collins: Strayed from point guard mode in trying to find his shot and made just 4 of 16 shots. He got it done at the end, though.

5. Tyrel Reed: Loves to take the big shot and usually makes it. His three-pointer at the five-minute mark gave Kansas much-needed breathing room. Scored eight points.

6. Marcus Morris: Had six points, seven boards and two assists. Four of the rebounds came off the offensive glass.

7. Mario Little: Quiet day for the junior forward, who scored two points and had one rebound in 11 minutes.

8. Tyshawn Taylor: Not quite where most thought he would be after sensational November performance against Syracuse.

9. Quintrell Thomas: Picked up an offensive rebound but failed to turn it into a bucket. Played three minutes.

10. Travis Releford: Had a turnover and a rebound in two minutes.
