Aldrich, Johnson earn top spots in rankings

By Staff     Dec 30, 2009

1. Cole Aldrich: Passed up an easy shot and took two shots he shouldn’t have — one banked in from the top of the key — but otherwise dominated the interior with six blocked shots and 14 rebounds.

2. Elijah Johnson: Picked up the team’s pace during his 10 minutes, time enough to contribute seven points, three assists and a steal.

3. Marcus Morris: Quick footwork on the baseline results him getting a lot of easy buckets. He’s shooting .593 from the field. Had 14 points but just two rebounds.

4. Sherron Collins: Had nine points, four assists and two steals.

5. Tyshawn Taylor: Intercepted a lob pass intended for teammate Xavier Henry, which was strange. Continued to take good care of the basketball, other than the pass he threw to the KU bench. In past five games he has 29 assists and three turnovers.

6. C.J. Henry: Had eight points and four steals in nine minutes and is shooting .563 from three-point range.

7. Thomas Robinson: Nobody ever questions his toughness and hustle. Used it to pick up five points and three boards in eight minutes. Needs serious work on his free throw shooting. He’s shooting just .421 from the line.

8. Tyrel Reed: Didn’t hear coach Bill Self when he told him he was going in for Taylor, but played pretty well when he remembered to check in.

9. Xavier Henry: Not his night. Shot wasn’t dropping and he let it hurt the rest of his game. Didn’t exhibit winning body language on this night.

10. Jeff Withey: His first bucket as a college basketball player was a dunk. He added two rebounds and two personal fouls in six minutes.

11. Brady Morningstar: Made just 1 of 4 shots and finished with three points, four rebounds and two assists in 16 minutes.

12. Markieff Morris: Made just 1 of 5 shots.
