After each KU basketball game this season, this is where you can find out the hardwood equivalent of The Nielsen Ratings from Journal-World sports editor Tom Keegan. He’ll rate the Jayhawk scholarship players’ individual performances, telling you who was worth tuning in to watch. If you agree or maybe even differ, make sure to comment and tell Tom how you really feel. (Scoring: Each week, the top player in the ratings will be awarded 10 points. Second best gets nine points. Third best gets eight points, and so on and so on. The season standings are at the bottom.)
1. Cole Aldrich: Oh to have this young man’s financial future. He had 16 points, nine boards, six blocked shots and a number of on-the-money outlet passes.
2. Sherron Collins: Scored a team-high 18 points and needed only 12 shots from the field to do it. Mixed in five assists, turned it over just once and had two steals.
3. Brady Morningstar: Didn’t hit his shots, but did everything else extremely efficiently. Played the back of the zone defense and wasn’t exploited. Had five assists, four rebounds, not a single turnover, and two steals, one that led to an and-one basket.
4. Tyshawn Taylor: Had a signature charge, but also a blocked shot that fired up the crowd, some nice floaters and 10 points in 25 minutes.
5. Marcus Morris: He scores in many different ways and on this night had 13 points in 19 minutes.
6. Markieff Morris: Blocked three shots and had six rebounds in 21 minutes.
7. Tyrel Reed: Executed a nice move on a pull-back jumper, but misfired on his other four attempts, three from long range.
8. Travis Releford: Scored four points in three minutes.
9. Tyrone Appleton: Picked up an assist in two minutes.
10. Quintrell Thomas: Three personal fouls and a turnover in six forgettable minutes.
