After each KU basketball game this season, this is where you can find out the hardwood equivalent of The Nielsen Ratings from Journal-World sports editor Tom Keegan. He’ll rate the Jayhawk scholarship players’ individual performances, telling you who was worth tuning in to watch. If you agree or maybe even differ, make sure to comment and tell Tom how you really feel. (Scoring: Each week, the top player in the ratings will be awarded 10 points. Second best gets nine points. Third best gets eight points, and so on and so on. The season standings are at the bottom.)
1. Sherron Collins: Couldn’t do anything right for much of the first half but heated up in the second half, making four of his five three-pointers after the break. He scored a team-high 17 points.
2. Markieff Morris: Had eight points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals in 19 minutes.
3. Cole Aldrich: Didn’t have his best performance, missing easy shots, but still contributed 13 points, eight rebounds and three blocked shots.
4. Marcus Morris: Benched in favor of Matt Kleinmann for lack of effort in practice, Morris showed he got the message, coming off the bench for 13 points in 17 minutes.
5. Tyshawn Taylor: Had 10 points and 11 assists, but made a number of sloppy passes and finished with four turnovers.
6. Tyrel Reed: Got hot in the second half and helped blow open the game. Finished with 11 points and four rebounds.
7. Quintrell Thomas: Hustled for three points and four rebounds in seven minutes.
8. Travis Releford: Two points and two rebounds in six minutes.
9. Brady Morningstar: Made 2 of 5 three-point shots, but for the second time in three games was skunked in the rebound department.
10. Tyrone Appleton: Dribbed the ball into a lane packed with defenders and turned it over. Did bank in a free throw, however.
