Jackson opens season on top

_After each KU basketball game this season, this is where you can find out the hardwood equivalent of The Nielsen Ratings from Journal-World sports editor Tom Keegan. He’ll rate the Jayhawk scholarship players’ individual performances, telling you who was worth tuning in to watch. If you agree or maybe even differ, make sure to comment and tell Tom how you really feel. (**Scoring**: Each week, the top player in the ratings will be awarded 10 points. Second best gets nine points. Third best gets eight points, and so on and so on. The season standings are at the bottom)_**1. Darnell Jackson**: The senior has added scoring to his muscle and hustle. Made 8 of 9 field goal attempts, all five free throws, and scored a career-high 21 points in 18 minutes.**2. Sherron Collins**: Had 22 points, six assists and four steals and made 4 of 7 3-pointers and 9 of 13 overall. Looks to be in great shape. **3. Tyrel Reed**: Showing excellent range on his jumper, Reed scored 11 points in 11 minutes in his debut. **4. Cole Aldrich**: Six points and six rebounds in 10-minute debut. Has soft hands, moves his feet well and has a nice touch down low. **5. Russell Robinson**: Was hot early, making a pair of three-pointers, following one of those by forcing a turnover on the in-bounds pass. **6. Rod Stewart**: Had a career-high eight assists in 16 minutes. Shouldn’t shoot from the outside. **7. Jeremy Case**: One bad turnover does not a bad night make. Had a steal and buried his only 3-point shot on his way to five points in nine minutes. **8. Mario Chalmers**: Shot wasn’t falling the way it did in the exhibition games. **9. Sasha Kaun**: Hands remain an issue for the big man. **10. Darrell Arthur**: Looked too jacked-up and was in hurry mode all night on offense. Made just four of 12 shots. Looked more like a prospect than a polished player. Look for a big bounce-back game from him Sunday night against UMKC.**The Keegan Ratings: Season Standings (total points)** **1.** Darnell Jackson (10 points) **2.** Sherron Collins (9 points) **3.** Tyrel Reed (8 points) **4.** Cole Aldrich (7 points) **5.** Russell Robinson (6 points) **6.** Rod Stewart (5 points) **7.** Jeremy Case (4 points) **8.** Mario Chalmers (3 points) **9.** Sasha Kaun (2 points) **10.** Darrell Arthur (1 point)
