The Keegan Ratings: Rush’s grand finale?

By Staff     Mar 24, 2007

_After each KU basketball game this season, this is where you can find out the basketball equivalent of The Nielsen Ratings from Journal-World sports editor Tom Keegan. He’ll rate the Jayhawks’ individual performances from top to bottom, telling you who was worth tuning in to watch and who has seen better days. If you agree or maybe even differ, make sure to comment and tell Tom how you really feel._**1. Brandon Rush**: Many of the 24 points Arron Afflalo scored came when Rush either was on the bench or had switched onto another player. Rush, as did all his teammates, had some shots on drives go in and out, but overall, he was by far the team’s best, most aggressive player. He led or shared the team lead in scoring (18 points), rebounding (five) and blocked shots (two).**2. Russell Robinson**: Defensively, he got his quick hands on the basketball in mid-dribble several times, and picked up five steals. Also hit both three-point shot attempts.**3. Darnell Jackson**: Had a poor day at the free throw line (2-for-5) and committed three turnovers, but did pick up two steals and did his usual strong job on the board, slamming the ball on a follow shot.**4. Julian Wright**: Was too eager to give the ball up when Kansas needed a second scorer to help Rush. Best contribution came in getting four steals. **5. Darrell Arthur**: Has a chance to become the team’s most improved player next season. Showed flashes of brilliance all season, but has at least one more year of seasoning before he can consider jumping. **6. Mario Chalmers**: Didn’t do a good job taking care of the ball and needs to get stronger and make better decisions before he thinks about leaving college. Made one of eight shots and committed seven turnovers. Did mix in seven assists and six steals.**7. Sasha Kaun**: Limited to 13 minutes because he didn’t have the quickness to rebound with UCLA’s big men and missed a couple of easy shots.**8. Sherron Collins**: Lost his quickness late in the season, perhaps because of his knee trouble. Was scoreless in 14 minutes and had troubles defensively.**9. Rodrick Stewart**: Limited to four minutes and was eliminated from the NCAA Tournament one day after his left-handed twin brother, USC’s Lodrick.**The Keegan Ratings: Final Season Standings (total points and average rank)** **1.** Brandon Rush (127, 38 games) 3.34 **2.** Julian Wright (135, 38 games) 3.55 **3.** Mario Chalmers (139, 38 games) 3.66 **4.** Sherron Collins (169, 38 games) 4.45 **5.** Russell Robinson (165, 37 games) 4.46 **6.** Darrell Arthur (188, 38 games) 4.95 **7.** Darnell Jackson (224, 38 games) 5.89 **8.** Sasha Kaun (205, 34 games) 6.03 **9.** Rodrick Stewart (272, 30 games) 9.07 **10.** Jeremy Case (178, 19 games) 9.37 **11.** Brady Morningstar (156, 16 games) 9.75 **12.** Matt Kleinmann (190, 17 games) 11.18 **13.** Brennan Bechard (150, 12 games) 12.50 **14.** Brad Witherspoon (131, 10 games) 13.10
