After a while, the numbers of futility produced by the Kansas football program begin to blend together, numbing the reader of them. Nothing sticks. Life goes on. Basketball salves the wounds.
And then there is KU’s current nine-quarter scoreless streak. It seems to have resonated with everyone who follows Kansas football. A nine-quarter scoreless streak? In the Big 12, a conference known more for up-tempo offenses and great quarterbacks than for stout defenses.
Remarkable.
During the streak that started with the fourth quarter of a 65-19 loss to Texas Tech in Lawrence, continued with a 45-0 loss to Iowa State in Ames and grew in Fort Worth with a 43-0 loss to TCU, opponents outscored Kansas, 105-0. Take it back another half of a quarter and it’s 118-0.
During those nine quarters, opponents have outgained the Jayhawks in total yardage, 951-139.
