The Greene Room Live: KU-Toledo

By Staff     Sep 15, 2007

**9:12 p.m.**: Well, this is probably where I’ll leave you for the night.Another big win for KU wrapped up nicely with a bow, as they found ways to prove a couple of things tonight, even in a blowout.-Todd Reesing is human…sort of. He still has no interceptions thrown this season compared to 10 touchdown strikes, but he completed just 16-of-35 passes, and looked off-target for a good portion of the night. His receivers made his final numbers look as good as they did, but it’s good to see that his receivers can help make up for him when he’s even not at his best.-The defense is still alive in the turnover category. After going takeaway-less in the first 120 minutes of gameplay this season, KU picked off three Aaron Opelt passes, making them all look impressive. The second team D took away a fumble by Clint Cochran in the fourth quarter, thanks to a strip by Maxwell Onyegbule.-Next week might be more boring than last. Florida International, winless a year ago, was smacked around again today, losing to Miami 23-9 in a crosstown bout. It’s gonna get brutal at Memorial Stadium, that’s pretty much a lock.Talk to you next week, same time, same channel.**8:48 p.m.**: I’m really starting to wonder what it will take to stop this KU offense.Todd Reesing has thrown for 313 yards and four touchdowns, but only completed 45.7 percent of his passes. Incredible. The reason his yardage totals have piled up is because of his receivers. On short passes, they have executed spin moves beautifully and have broken tackles efficiently.Well, or it could be that Toledo just doesn’t care anymore…which is very possible.Marcus Henry at the moment has 355 yards on the season, surpassing already his grand total of 312 as a junior. At this rate, based on Keegan math, he’s on pace to have 1,420 yards on the season, which would break a school single season record currently at 1,144…which has stood for 24 years.**8:03 p.m.**: What’s really impressive so far is how KU is still moving the ball and scoring big despite Todd Reesing being as sharp on his passes as he’s been in the first two tilts of the season. Some throws have been short, some have been high, but the guys around him have definitely stepped up in this game. A few notes…-Marcus Henry has five catches for 104 yards in the first half. That ties a KU record for most consecutive 100-yard games, as he now has three. He’ll have more than a good chance to top that next week against a miserable Florida International team. (Henry only had 316 yards all of last year. So far this year through 2.5 games = 326 yards).-The fans look cold.-Aqib Talib had a catch later in the first half that _didn’t_ go for a touchdown. That brings his percentage of touchdowns per catch to 67, down from 80. Poor guy.**7:03 p.m.**: It’s funny, as we continue to see what great team speed KU has with certain individual examples.Marcus Henry brandished it this time, on his 42-yard touchdown catch. It was a simple 10-yard out route, when he spun and literally ran away from three Toledo defenders on his way to an easy-looking touchdown. Impressive stuff, as a blowout seems to be coming.**6:50 p.m.**: Forget Kerry Meier making NCAA history with a projected 42-of-42 passing performance this year.Aqib Talib just caught his fifth pass of his KU career, and turned it into his fourth touchdown catch. Yes, five catches, four touchdowns. This one was cooler than the rest, too. He caught the ball while elevating in space at the 25-yard line, and spun to the sideline. At the five, with a defender ready to shove him out of bounds, he leapt for the end zone, executing a full flip and scoring. Now now now, settle down…this was different than Pendleton’s dive, as Talib _had_ to do it. Therefore he caught no crap from the coaching staff.Though many might miss that he could have been flagged for bending down and swinging the ball through his legs twice, as if he were dribbling a basketball through his wickets. Luckily for him, he was shielded by teammates. And also luckily for him, Mangino appeared not to see it.But even if he did, can you really bark at a guy who scores a touchdown 80 percent of the time he touches the rock?**6:09 p.m.**: Early notes…-Freshman Ian Wolfe started over senior Cesar Rodriguez at right tackle.-Junior right guard Chet Hartley was knicked up with an apparent left leg injury on KU’s third offensive snap.-The media jinxed Todd Reesing good, playing up the fact all week that Toledo had not recorded a sack in its first two games of the season. The Rockets got that out of the way on the game’s third snap, forcing a three-and-out.**5:59 p.m.**: Well, about to kickoff here at Memorial Stadium, and for the third straight week, a late-arriving crowd. Today, weather can actually play culprit for that, as it’s overcast and quite chilly. The highlight of my gameday so far was on the drive up towards campus, passing a group of students playing some Beer Pong in front of their house. On one side of the table was two kids donning blue T-shirts. On the back was the number 5 and above it “Sparky.” Great stuff. If those guys read this, they’ve got to find a way to get one to Reesing’s biggest supporter and Heisman campaigner – Tom Keegan. Also, the line on this game is now up to 28.5 points at kickoff. Can you believe that? It was 21.5 when lines opened earlier this week. Just throwin’ that out there, courtesy of Ryan Wood.Talk to you once this thing’s underway.**_KUSports.com editor Ryan Greene can be reached at rgreene@ljworld.com, or by phone at (785) 832-6357._**
