Tom Keegan is 13-0 so far through two weeks of his [Kream Keegan][1] contest. Then again, [Brick Tamland][2] could have picked Oklahoma to beat North Texas. We’ll see how those numbers hold up once Big 12 play starts, though nothin’ but love, Keegs.I’m starting my own picks, but I’m going to throw in a twist – I’m picking against the spreads. Besides, it’s more fun that way, I think. This will become a new Greene Room tradition. Every Thursday, this is where you find it. I’ll pick the weekend’s Big 12 games, plus other national contests of interest, based on lines late Wednesday night.I can’t lie, [Nick Bakay][3] served as some inspiration for me to do this a few years back, and now that I have the forum to do so, gotta take advantage. So here goes.**WEEK 3** **_Big 12 Tilts_** **Oklahoma State (-10) vs. Troy** You can’t say Troy doesn’t try to hang with the big boys. Oklahoma States is probably the weakest of the Trojans’ first three opponents to start the year, after losing to both Arkansas and Florida. But Troy hung up 26 on the Razorbacks and 31 against the Gators – both on the road. With Okie State quarterback [Bobby Reid uncertain][4] heading into this one with knee and ankle woes, I think the Trojans have plenty of reason for optimism. **My pick: Troy (+10)****Iowa (-17.5) at Iowa State** A friend of mine said Iowa is no guarantee to cover this spread because Iowa State traditionally plays the Hawkeyes tough. Though last year the Cyclones lost to them at home 41-10. Take into consideration that they’ve already lost to Kent State and Northern Iowa, their first venture against a BCS conference opponent won’t be pretty. **My pick: Iowa (-17.5)****Kansas (-22.5) vs. Toledo** Oooh, I just saw on the ticker that Reesing threw a 17th touchdown pass on the Southeastern Louisiana defense (oh yeah, and two words: _[REVENGE GAME][5]_). **My pick: Kansas (-22.5)****Texas (-19) at Central Florida** This one is bound to scratch some heads, but it shouldn’t. Texas has been erratic, the Knights have already beat NC State, George O’Leary has his team looking legit and they’re opening a brand new stadium……but it’s still Texas. **My pick: Texas (-19)****Missouri (-20.5) vs. Western Michigan** Just like Troy, you’ve got to respect Western Michigan, whose first three games this year are West Virginia (L 62-24), Indiana (L 37-27) and now Mizzou. Don’t forget that the Broncos were picked to win the MAC this year…ahead of Central Michigan. But it doesn’t look like they have much of a defense. **My pick: Mizzou (-20.5)****Texas Tech (-28) vs. Rice** This one’s more lopsided than [Tommy “The Machine” Gunn vs. Union Cane][6]. It’ll be over in less than one round, and you’ll be home in time for supper. **My pick: Texas Tech (-28)****Southern Cal (-10) at Nebraska** Only 10? [Tommy Frazier][7] ain’t walkin’ through that door. [Lawrence Phillips][8] ain’t walkin’ through that door. [Eric Crouch][9] aint walkin thr…you get my point. **My pick: USC (-10)****Florida State (-4) at Colorado** I could probably think of a lot more to write if it were 1996. **My pick: Florida State (-4)****Texas A&M (-24) vs. Louisiana-Monroe** The Warhawks have lost to Clemson and Tulsa, but all KU fans should remember the name [Kinsmon Lancaster][10]. **My pick: Louisiana-Monroe (+24)****_Around the Nation_** **Illinois (-12.5) at Syracuse** I picked this game for two reasons. 1) All KU hoops fans despise both schools, which makes me giggle, and 2) These two teams secretly played a [wildly entertaining game][11] a year ago. This year, though Syracuse is wretched. **My pick: Illinois (-12.5)****Purdue (-21) vs. Central Michigan** Two teams that run a spread offense and have proven they can’t defend anyone. Flip a coin. **My pick: Central Michigan (+21)****Florida (-8) vs. Tennessee** If Peyton Manning couldn’t win in the swamp, I wouldn’t count on Erik Ainge to do it. **My pick: Florida (-8)****Michigan (-7.5) vs. Notre Dame** In a battle of untested, true freshman quarterbacks playing in front of 115,000, I’m going with the dude who’s 6-foot-7. **My pick: Michigan (-7.5)****Louisville (-7) at Kentucky** In honor of one of my favorite players in the college game today, Keenan Burton… My pick: **Kentucky (+7)****_KUSports.com editor Ryan Greene can be reached at rgreene@ljworld.com, or by phone at (785) 832-6357._** [1]: http://www2.kusports.com/keegan/ [2]: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EX-P5KLQlEk&mode=related&search= [3]: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nick_Bakay [4]: http://newsok.com/article/3123166/1189483228 [5]: http://www2.kusports.com/news/2006/sep/16/not_rocket_science/ [6]: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BUO4tuHZW2o [7]: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tommie_Frazier [8]: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lawrence_Phillips [9]: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eric_Crouch [10]: http://www2.kusports.com/news/2006/sep/10/now_was_close/ [11]: http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaaf/recap?gid=200609160026′
