The Greene Room Live: KU-FHSU

**10:03 p.m.**: The most unheralded performance of the night came from Russell Robinson, who said he was eyeing a triple-double while joking around after the game. He finished with seven points, six rebounds and 10 assists. Those 10 dimes, though, are symbolic of what this offense will be capable of during the start of the regular season with a guard-laden offense featuring Robinson, Sherron Collins and Mario Chalmers on the floor at the same time. The most impressive stat throughout the exhibition season was Mario Chalmers not only being aggressive from three-point range, but hitting seven of the nine attempted longballs he put up over the two-game span. Last year he had a tough time getting started in the season with the three-ball. This is a positive sign as the regular season is set to get going Friday night against Louisiana-Monroe.Not much else to say about this one. It was what you expected from an exhibition bout with a D-II school. At least KU won, which is something Michigan State and Ohio State couldn’t claim regarding their preseason openers.See you Friday night. It’s been fun as always.**8:54 p.m.**: The second half wasn’t much to write home about with the exception of Darrell Arthur’s reverse throwdown of a Russell Robinson lob to give the Dallas sophomore 20 points on the night.I’ll be back shortly with some postgame nuggets.**8:26 p.m.**: KU has looked pretty lifeless so far in the second half, but they’re sorta excused for the effort which was given in the first half, plus the fact that this one has been over for awhile.Of course, KU doesn’t have its optimal lineups on the floor, as it looks like Tyrel Reed, Jeremy Case and Rodrick Stewart will get extensive looks as the game clock dwindles down.**8:07 p.m.**: Taking a look at the first half stat sheet, Mario Chalmers had three steals, which stood out, but the number was expected given how aggressive he was. He led off the second half with his fourth swipe of the game.Sasha Kaun and Darnell Jackson each had seven rebounds, while Russell Robinson and Darrell Arthur each had six. KU has outrebounded FHSU by 12 so far after a moderate showing on the glass in the exhibition opener last Thursday.FHSU only shot 17.1 percent from the floor, which makes the huge halftime lead hardly surprising.**7:40 p.m.**: Yeah, Fort Hays State’s shooting is really really really really bad, but KU has to get some credit for the defensive hustle. Mario Chalmers has shown the most atop the key, while Darnell Jackson and Sasha Kaun have both shown midseason form underneath the rim.Jeremy Case is trying to make a statement tonight to earn some more playing time come the regular season, I would imagine, and has looked good both handling the ball and finishing twice in transition.**7:25 p.m.**: The two guys who I think have impressed the most so far are Mario Chalmers and Sasha Kaun. While KU isn’t shooting that great so far, having scored 14 points on 33-percent shooting, both have been integral in keeping FHSU to two points more than eight minutes in via eight-percent shooting from the floor.Chalmers has at least three floor burns so far and is treating this like a Big 12 game, while Kaun has been aggressive not only on the glass, but in calling for the ball offensively, having just taken some bad bounces off the iron.**7:04 p.m.**: Also, to whomever I forgot to fill in last week that requested info on whether the pregame video has changed at all from last year, the answer is no, it has not. Sorry about forgetting to throw that in last Thursday. My bad.**7:00 p.m.**: Something else which could only be considered noteworthy when it involves Kansas basketball: Bill Self went for the no-tie look tonight. Suave.**6:36 p.m.**: Sorry for the late start tonight, but here’s some pregame nuggets:**-Kansas is going with the red uniforms tonight**. And only in Kansas, it seems, is that news.**-If you’re into comparative scoring**, it’ll be fun to compare KU’s performance tonight against the Tigers with the one FHSU put up against K-State three days ago. For reference, freshman cure-all Mike Beasley had 35 points, 15 rebounds, six steals, four blocks and four assists in that game. If one KU player were to have a freakish night and put up numbers, who would that be? I’d say the only guy rounded enough to do so would be Brandon Rush. Though we all know that can’t physically happen tonight, because…**-Rush is out once again with the team during warmups** and layup lines. It’s all the same as last week’s exhibition opener – his shot and everything looks fine, though he’s just moving a little bit gingerly. That’s to be expected, though. It’s still ridiculous to think that he tore his ACL in the first week of June, and in the first week of November is in uniform warming up.**-Despite taking a redshirt this season, Brady Morningstar will still** suit up and be traveling with the team. He’s on the floor and in uniform tonight.**-No injuries or anything like that to report, though** Sherron Collins has a band-aid over his right eye. My guess would be an elbow in practice, but my guess here courtside is as good as yours in front of your screen.I’ll talk to you in a bit after the tip.
