Flavio Gonzalez, a left guard at Butler Community College who committed to transfer to Kansas on April 30, instead intends to play at Oregon State.
Gonzalez, who is from Tucson, Arizona, wrote on social media on Monday night that he had always dreamt of playing in the Pac-12 and was thus decommitting from Kansas. He held a signing ceremony at Pueblo High, from which he graduated, earlier in the day.
He received more than a dozen scholarship offers from FBS programs in April, but Kansas’ was the only one he had been extended from a Power 5 school and he accepted it that day. When he did so, he chose the Jayhawks’ offer over those from Western Kentucky and Eastern Michigan.
In his post, he shared photos of himself wearing an Oregon State uniform, suggesting he had taken an official visit to the school earlier this month.

Gonzalez spent the 2019 season at Southwestern, a junior college in Chula Vista, California, then left for Butler, which is two hours southwest of Lawrence in El Dorado.
He will be the fifth offensive lineman joining the Beavers’ incoming class. The Jayhawks have just three in Buffalo transfer Nolan Gorczyca, who enrolled at Kansas in January, and high school graduates James Livingston and Joey Baker.
Kansas has four of five starters returning on its offensive line and is looking to identify its starting left guard, a swing tackle, a reserve guard and a backup center prior to the start of next season. Gonzalez has two seasons of eligibility remaining, plus a potential redshirt year.
His commitment kicked off a string of others by players who had chosen to transfer to Kansas. Minnesota wide receiver Doug Emilien committed two days later on May 2, Buffalo right tackle Deondre Doiron said he would attend Kansas on May 6 and Hutchinson Community College defensive end Davion Westmoreland chose to play for the Jayhawks on May 9.
