Self, KU prep for evenly matched battle with Michigan

I'll be glad to explain. Michigan lost 6 of their last 12, including at lowly Penn State (2-16 in conference). And Kentucky -- you've gotta be kidding, right? They dropped 6 of their last 10 against a very weak SEC and were crushed by a bad Vanderbilt team in the conference tourney. (Then, of course, Robert Morris confirmed, if there were any doubts, whether the 'Cats deserved to be in the NCAAs.)

I don't know. You've got Duke vs. Michigan State, Indiana vs. Syracuse (for the first time since the '87 title game), and the Florida Gulf Coast Cinderella story. I think Kansas will continue to fly under the radar until and unless we face Florida Gulf Coast -- in which case everyone in the nation will be rooting against us.

Self not worried by McLemore’s scoring slump

Well, it would hardly be surprising that our one freshman starter would be the "worst" defender of the lot. I don't know if I'd call him "stellar" on D, but given that we've had the #1 defense in the nation with him starting all year, he obviously isn't a serious liability.

Self not worried by McLemore’s scoring slump

How did we ever hire Roy Williams or Larry Brown, who are Carolina fans? How did we ever hire Bill Self, an Okie State alum?

Who knows, but I never thought it looked like he was crying. "Cringing" definitely seemed like the correct word.

UNC coach Roy Williams: Loss stings, but not because of history with KU

Self has suffered many early-tourney upsets too (as has every coach who's been in this game for a long time). A couple of free throws and/or miracle shots are the only thing that separates Roy from having one or two titles during his years at KU and Self from having none.

Both of these guys have had highs and lows. Both have, at times, won with lesser talent and lost with superior talent. And both are at the pinnacle of their profession. It's fine if you want to argue that Self is better, but give Roy the respect he deserves.

Notebook: Bill Self says team 'fortunate' to have three-game NCAA win streak over UNC

I agree with Texashawk. It's too close to call; no way you can say Self is better BY FAR. It's like comparing Dean Smith to Bob Knight. The head to head matchup isn't terribly relevant when you consider their careers as a whole.

Larry rejuvenated KU then bolted. Roy made it sustainable.

RIght. He should have been fired because he signed duds like Paul Pierce and Nick Collison instead of Rasheed Wallace and Vince Carter.
