Tom Keegan: Ranking potential Big 12 suitors

I suppose if KU had a semi-legit football program, and better non-revenue sports you could get on your knees and maybe get a Big Ten slot. Sadly, you're decades from the first two points. So try to make the best of the Big XII, it's the best you're likely to do.

Tom Keegan: Ranking potential Big 12 suitors

Shame we didn't get Louisville. They, Cincy, Memphis and WVU make a lot of sense together...

Sizing up what the top Big 12 expansion candidates mean for Kansas

"Elite" is such a tricky term.

UConn among the Doctoral Universities - Highest Research Activity -- as are ALL the public schools in the Big XII.

That said, they're not a AAU university, which are the MOST elite research universities... and include Texas, Kansas, and Iowa State (Note that so is Tulane, for the record.)

So they can be plenty snotty but it seem like they'd fit in just fine academically.

Big 12 coaches give honest assessment of KU football

Bottom line: Kansas only has about 3MM people. K-State has established a very successful football program over the past 20 years, and virtually every top recruit from in-state has either gone there or to a really big time program. There just aren't enough local recruits to go around. Add in the fact that Missouri kids h(Have Mizzou, Nebraska has UNL, Oklahoma has OU and OSU... it's hard.

Jayhawks' Greene declares for NBA Draft

So the kid is highly recruited out of high school, sits the bench at Kansas for three years. Probably could have played a lot of other places... maybe made the NBA. Sorta stupid, no?

Tom Keegan: Difference between Final Four, Elite Eight — ‘Huge. It’s monumental’

Typical KU fan. Classy to the end ;)

I hope you live long enough to have that feeling again. You're not due for another 12 or more years... 1953... 1988.... 2008. The 1988 one really should have an asterisk as you hired Danny's truck driving dad as an assistant coach his junior year in high school. LOL

Tom Keegan: Difference between Final Four, Elite Eight — ‘Huge. It’s monumental’

Especially given that KU only wins one every 20 or 30 years... 1953, 1988, 2008...could be along time...

We'll see how long that streak lasts. The new $11MM basketball dorm isn't exactly what I'd call un-flashy. I'm sure it won't attract the "wrong sort"...

Tom Keegan: Difference between Final Four, Elite Eight — ‘Huge. It’s monumental’

I think it's the opposite. They're just so used to winning and all the attention that it numbs them. The kids from programs with lesser expections know this is their one shot...

Tom Keegan: Difference between Final Four, Elite Eight — ‘Huge. It’s monumental’

Honestly, I think it's a lack of heart on the part of the players. These guys didn't grow up as KU fans, most of them probably couldn't find Kansas on a map. I'm positive that the only time they've been west of Lawrence is the away games in Manhattan. They're basically hired guns. They know that very likely they'll be back next year, or they're off to the NBA. Other teams and other schools know this is their ONE SHOT at the brass ring. I really don't know how to say it any better. You'll note that nearly every year it's the new kids that win it all...
