Each week during the University of Kansas’ sports seasons, the Journal-World staff will select one athlete from a KU men’s sports team and one from a women’s sports team as athletes of the week.
For the week of March 2-8, the selections are Jordan Bach and Ella Boyer.
Jordan Bach, baseball
The Jayhawks’ best hitter to this point in the season is the Canadian outfielder, a graduate transfer from Spring, Texas. During KU’s series against St. Thomas, in which the Jayhawks took three out of four games, Bach was 5-for-16 at the plate with four walks, a double and two home runs. He also stole three bases.
Ella Boyer, softball
KU’s team leader in home runs (eight) and RBIs (32) at this early stage of the season is this freshman catcher from Spring, Texas. Many Jayhawks had big weeks as KU went 4-0 with a midweek road win at Wichita State and home sweep of Utah State, but Boyer was exceptional at the plate as she went 6-for-12 with a double, three home runs and three walks.
