Each week during the University of Kansas’ sports seasons, the Journal-World staff will select one athlete from a KU men’s sports team and one from a women’s sports team as athletes of the week.
For the week of Sept. 8-14, the selections are Arthur Carlier and Grace Nelson.
Arthur Carlier, men’s golf
A freshman from Soissons, France, playing in his first collegiate event, Carlier tied for seventh (with senior teammate Will King) in the Folds of Honor Collegiate by shooting a 1-over 214 across three rounds. That included a strong back nine in his first round in which he did not record a bogey. Carlier helped the Jayhawks tie for third, which was KU’s best-ever mark at the Folds of Honor.
Grace Nelson, volleyball
Nelson was less effective in her third of three matches at the South Dakota Tournament, but prior to that the sophomore from River Forest, Illinois, posted a pair of career performances against Florida Gulf Coast and Green Bay, recording 18 kills in each on hitting percentages of .463 and .597.
