Each week during the University of Kansas’ sports seasons, the Journal-World staff will select one athlete from a KU men’s sports team and one from a women’s sports team as athletes of the week.
For the week of Nov. 24-30, the selections are Elmarko Jackson and Selena Leban.
Elmarko Jackson, men’s basketball
The redshirt sophomore from Marlton, New Jersey, came alive in the second half of KU’s victory over No. 17 Tennessee at the Players Era tournament in Las Vegas. He scored 15 points in the period to complete a career-high 17 on the day, and along with Melvin Council Jr., he carried the load as the Jayhawks stormed back from a 12-point deficit early in the second half.
Selena Leban, volleyball
In some of her most extensive action since early in the season, Leban recorded 14 kills on 28 swings with a .357 hitting percentage in Sunday’s four-set senior-day victory over UCF. The freshman from Nova Gorica, Slovenia, matched the second-highest total of her young career with the Jayhawks.
